Poppd — Terms of Use

Poppd is in beta. This page describes how the app actually behaves and what we ask of you. Where a section is marked under legal review, the formal legal wording is being finalised with legal advisers before public release — we have written the honest plain-language version rather than publishing boilerplate we have not checked. 1. About these terms

These terms are an agreement between you and Sami Rehman, an individual developer, of E1-05 Meydan South Villas, Dubai, United Arab Emirates, about your use of Poppd. Using the app means you accept them.

This is a beta release, distributed for testing. The app is under active development: features will change, some things will break, and data can be lost. Do not treat Poppd as a permanent or reliable record of anything.

Our Privacy Policy explains what we do with your data and forms part of these terms.

2. What the app does

Poppd lets you record movies you have watched, rate them on a four-point scale, build a taste profile, find people with similar taste, and get recommendations.

Recommendations are suggestions, not promises. A match score is a compatibility score based on your ratings and other users' — not a prediction that you will enjoy a film. Movie information, running times, age certifications, posters and artwork come from a third party (TMDB) and may be incomplete, out of date or wrong; do not rely on a certification shown in the app as an authoritative age rating.

3. Your account

• You need an account. Today that means an email address and a password. (Sign in with Apple and Sign in with Google are planned but not yet available.)
• You must be at least 13 to use Poppd. We ask you to confirm that when you create your profile and we record the confirmation, but we do not verify it and we do not collect your date of birth.
• One account per person. Creating accounts to inflate your own influence on recommendations is not allowed (§5).
• Keep your sign-in details to yourself. Tell us at privacy@poppd.io if you think someone else has access.
• You can delete your account at any time from Settings. See the Privacy Policy for exactly what is deleted and what is kept.

4. Your username, photo and bio

You choose a username and may add a photo and a short bio. They must not impersonate anyone, and must not contain slurs or abusive terms — the app blocks a list of these outright, and a blocked username or bio will simply be refused.

What we do with them — under legal review. They stay yours. We need your permission to store them and to show them inside the app to the people your privacy settings allow — that is what a profile is — and to process your ratings to produce recommendations and taste matches for you and for other users, as the Privacy Policy describes. We do not use them anywhere else: not in advertising, not to train anything, and we do not sell them. The formal licence wording is being finalised with legal advisers before public release.

We may remove or require a change to a username, photo or bio that breaks these terms.

5. Fair use

Do not:

• rate films in bulk, or in patterns designed to push a film up or down other people's recommendations — the recommendation engine is a shared resource and manipulating it affects everyone;
• create fake or automated accounts, or run scripts against the app or its API;
• harass, impersonate or abuse other users;
• submit reports you know to be false, or report the same account repeatedly to harass them — reporting is rate-limited and repeated reports of the same account will be refused;
• attempt to access data the app does not show you, or to work around the privacy settings of another account;
• copy, scrape or redistribute movie data or artwork from the app.

Movie data and artwork come from The Movie Database and are subject to TMDB's own terms. The app displays:

6. Safety tools

You can block an account, remove a follower, unfollow, hide any of your own ratings, change your profile privacy, and report an account with a reason. Blocking makes you and the blocked account invisible to each other. Reports are stored and are read by one person.

What we can actually do about a report — under legal review. We may suspend or remove an account that breaks these terms. Being straight with you about the beta: there is no admin console for suspensions and no appeals workflow — anything of that kind would be done by hand, by one person, and we are not going to promise a response time or a process we have not built. The formal wording of our suspension and termination rights, and of any appeal route, is being finalised with legal advisers before public release.

7. Availability and changes

We may change, suspend or withdraw features, and the app depends on services we do not control (hosting, app stores, the movie data provider).

The app is provided as it is — under legal review. We do not guarantee that it will be available, uninterrupted, accurate or free of faults. It is a beta, built and run by one person, and much of what it shows you comes from third parties. The formal warranty disclaimer is being finalised with legal advisers before public release.

We may update these terms by updating this page and changing the effective date at the top. The current version is always the one here.

8. Ending it

You can stop using the app and delete your account at any time — see §3 and the Privacy Policy. Our side of this (suspension and termination) is covered in §6 and is under legal review.

9. Liability — under legal review

The formal limitation of liability is being finalised with legal advisers before public release, and we are not going to publish an untested clause in the meantime. Two things we can say plainly now: Poppd is a free beta movie-tracking app, so do not rely on it for anything that matters or as your only record of anything; and nothing we eventually publish here will take away rights you have under the law where you live that cannot be given up.

10. Legal — under legal review

• Governing law and jurisdiction. Which country's law governs these terms, and where a dispute would be heard, is being settled with legal advisers before public release. Poppd's launch markets are the UK, the US and the UAE.
• App stores. The app is distributed through Apple's App Store, and later Google Play. Their own terms for apps you install apply to you in addition to these terms. The formal flow-down wording is being finalised with legal advisers.
• Intellectual property and takedowns. If you believe something in the app infringes your rights, write to privacy@poppd.io with the detail and we will look at it. A formal takedown and complaints procedure is being finalised with legal advisers.
